Repeat Rows 1–6 for pattern.
Each row is written for sixteen stitches per row. You can glean from the way the rows are written that the first and last stitch of each row is an edge stitch because the first stitch comes before the asterisk indicating a section to repeat, and the last stitch comes after the group of stitches has been repeated. But that’s about all you can tell at first glance.
When the pattern is charted, you can immediately see that there are two edge stitches and that the fourteen-stitch repeat is actually two distinct seven-stitch patterns. Having all that information up front allows us to get into the rhythm of the pattern from the beginning.
